        Weekly Notes 24 June 2006:

The U-14 hurlers had a very busy weekend. On Wednesday14th June they played Ardfield in the league in Ardfield and came away with a convincing victory against a young side. At the weekend they were involved in the Feile hurling competition. This is part of an All Ireland competition with competitions at various gradings to suit the level of ability, It turned out to be a most enjoyable if extremely busy weekend. As the club were hosts to a team representing London these were welcomed on Thursday evening. Various families within the parish provided accommodation. On Friday afternoon Kilmacabea played London in Leap and getting a few early scores were able to do enough to win the game. From here both groups travelled to Cork for a parade through the streets addressed by the president of the GAA, Nicky Brennan and including 175 teams from all over Ireland and England. On Saturday the games were played in Skibbereen. Kilmacabea first played Dr. Crokes from Kerry and went in at half time down 3 points against a good balanced hurling side. In the second half the Kilmacs put in a superb performance to turn it around to win by two points. Unfortunately they had to play a very strong Skibbereen side immediately afterwards. This was a tight battle with the game swinging from one team to the other. The game was eventually decided by Skibbereen's strength in being able to get goals when needed and the result was 2-6 to 4-4 in favour of Skibbereen. Even though the end was disappointing this was a superb experience for this group and for the club. It is unlikely that the opportunity to play in the competition will arise again. The hosting of the London club was also most enjoyable. The lads that came over were a credit to themselves, their families and their clubs in their manner, the way they fitted in and the way they played the game and they would be welcome anywhere any time. The club would also like to thank the families who hosted people and even though it was a busy schedule it was a good experience. Well done to all involved.
The junior “C” team played St James in Leap on Friday evening. They put in a decent performance going in ahead at half time but losing out in the end.
The Junior A team had a victory over D. O’Mathuna in the league on Monday 19th in Leap.

        Weekly Notes 17 June 2006:

On Wednesday 7th June the junior “A” footballers played Caheragh in the league and were lucky to come away with a draw on the score of 1-8 to 0-11 the goal coming from a lucky break. They were in action again on Saturday 10th when they played Barryroe in Leap. This was a game the team seemed to be well in control of and were five points up with 15 minutes to go. Unfortunately they proceeded to give away some easy possession for which they were rightly penalised and they were also penalised with some dubious frees which at the time did not appear to be that important but in the end were very relevant and ended up losing by a point.
The junior “C” team played Kilmeen in Leap on Friday evening and even though they lost by five points the team turned in a satisfactory performance.
The U-12 hurlers were in action on Friday 9th June when they travelled to Glengarriffe to play the home team who this season have started hurling. They had a young team with some skilful players but the Kilmacs were too strong and had a clear victory.
This team was in action again on Monday 12th June when they played Mizen Rovers in the championship at Skibbereen. Kilmacabea got on top early on and got the scores to settle them and went on to have a convincing victory. Even though the team played well they would need to sharpen their striking. Team – Eamon O’Sullivan, Martin Collins, Denny Hayes, Oisin O’Sullivan, Liam O’Driscoll, Liam Cahalane, Niall Hayes, Declan O’Sullivan, Diarmuid O’Callaghan, Liam Thompson, Richie O’Sullivan, David O’Donovan, Aoife O’Neill, Emma O’Callaghan, Aishling Cahalane,  Odhran Connolly, Euan Tobin, Jack Tobin, David O’Donovan, Kevin O’Donovan, Jonathon O’Regan, Matthew O’Neill, Kevin Whooley.
The U –14 footballers played Newcestown in the league on Wednesday 7th June and had a comprehensive victory which was not of much benefit to the development of the side. The key players got on top and the game was over as a contest long before the end.
Fixtures for the week are –
U12 hurling championship semi final on Monday 19th  June at 7.30pm Venue and opponents TBA
Junior “A” football league v D. O’Mathuna in Leap on Saturday 19th June at 8.00pm
U14 football league v St. Mary’s in Leap on Wednesday 21st June at 7.30pm
As these fixtures are liable to change check locally prior to travelling.
The big event this weekend is the U14 hurlers competing in the Feile Competition. This is an All Ireland competition and as Cork are hosting it this year it has give weaker clubs such as Kilmacabea the opportunity to take part. As part of this event the club is playing host to a group from London and accommodation is being provided in the homes of club members. The group will arrive on Thursday evening 15th June and hosts are to pick up their guest from the Leap Inn at 7.00pm. Kilmacabea will play London on Friday afternoon at 3.00pm in Leap. Both teams will then travel to Cork to take part in a parade of teams down Patrick Street to an assembly at the Opera House at 7.00pm. On Saturday morning both teams will go into Skibbereen to play a series of games starting at 10.00am and also including Skibbereen and Dr. Crokes from Kerry. Kilmacabea will be playing at 11.00am and 12.15pm. The team that is successful from the series of games in Skibbereen will then go on to an All Ireland semi-final in Cork on Saturday evening. We  hope that our guests will get a good welcome and enjoy their stay in the area.

          Weekly Notes 10 June 2006:

On Thursday 1st June the U-12 hurlers started their playing season with a win over Mizen Rovers at Leap. Even though there was some rustiness, the team was well on top throughout and it gave the opportunity for players to get the feel for the game. On Saturday morning 3rd June the U-10 played some hurling games against Ardfield. Two games were played in fantastic conditions and it was very enjoyable. For many this was their first competitive game and it gave the opportunity for all of them to get a game and hopefully it will encourage their interest in the game.
The U –14 footballers also started their playing season with a comprehensive victory over a young Pedlars Cross side on Saturday 3rd June in Leap. Getting in to their stride very quickly the team was well on top and the game was over as a contest long before the end. The players did well and put in a good effort.         Weekly Notes 03 June 2006:

On Wednesday 24th May the junior “A” played Gabriel Rangers in the league in Leap. In a game of very poor quality the Kilmacs managed to gain victory on the score of 0-6 to 0-4.
The U –14 hurlers were in action on Friday night when they travelled to play Oliver Plunketts. The team was on top throughout and won comfortably.
The minor footballers were in action on Tuesday 30th May in Leap when they played Barryroe. Barryroe started the game on top with a goal and proceed to reflect their dominance with some fine scores. Kilmacabea slowly came back into it and were playing reasonably well before half time. The second half continued with Kilmacabea struggling in some key positions and as the game progressed the team lost its shape and discipline and were well beaten.
All the local schools were heavily involved in The Sciath na Scoil finals in Dunmanway on Tuesday 30th May. On a beautiful day there was some fine football played and great excitement for all those involved. Congratulations go to the fine Maultrahane girls team who were the only parish victors when they beat Cahermore N.S. to retain their title for the fourth year in a row. Maultrahane N.S. lost to Cahermore in their boys final. Leap N.S boys and girls lost to Caheragh in their finals and Glandore N.S. lost their boy’s final to Togher. While it was disappointing to lose it was good for all to be involved in the occasion and it is a great opportunity for more players to get involved and have their chance to play and be part of a team. Well done to all the players and all who were involved in preparing the teams.
Fixtures for the week are –

Junior “A” football v Caheragh in Caheragh on Wednesday 7th June at 7.30pm
As these fixtures are liable to change check locally prior to travelling.

        Weekly Notes 27 May 2006:

On a week badly disrupted by weather a number of games were still played. The big game was the west cork U-12 final against Pedlars Cross played on Tuesday 23rd May in Rosscarbery. The team started well and playing with the wind and the hill were completely on top for the first half but lacked penetration to reflect their dominance. Ballinascarthy broke and scored a goal and a point and for all Kilmacs possession they went in at half time behind on the score of 1-1 to 0-3. Things got even worse at the start of the second half went playing in a downpour and in to the strong wind they conceded a goal and a point immediately on the restart and when Pedlars scored a questionable third goal on the fourth minute there was never going to be any way back. To their credit they kept going and never gave in and kept playing right to the end and they can be proud of the way they played the game. Looking at the game so many of them played well it was a pity that their effort was not rewarded and the lack of penetration was to cost them dear. Each and everyone gave their all. It was a night when things did not fall their way and they can feel satisfied that they tried their best. Congratulations to Pedlars.
The team Liam Thompson, Kieran O’Sullivan, Denny Hayes, Liam O’Driscoll, Richie O’Sullivan, Niall Hayes, Declan O’Sullivan, Eamon O’Sullivan, Liam Cahalane, David O’Donovan, Oisin O’Sullivan,  Diarmuid O’Callaghan, Katie O’Sullivan, Finn Downes, Tony Shanahan, Martin Collins, Emma O’Callaghan, Lorraine O’Donovan, Aishling Cahalane, Kevin O’Donovan, Odhran Connolly, Thomas French, Aidan Williamson, Grace Tobin, Euan Tobin, Shane McDermott, Shane O’Neill, Aoife O’Neill, Matthew O’Neill.
On the same night the minors played the non exam league against Ilen Rovers in Rath. There was no referee there and this was to have a major bearing on the outcome. Being short a number of players it was always going to be a struggle and early on it looked as if they were going to be overwhelmed. Slowly they settled and in the end put up a tremendous performance, which was a great reflection on the attitude of this group of players and all the members of the panel. The game had been brought to within 1 point with minutes to go but Ilen got a late goal to clinch it.
On Saturday the 20th Iveleary were the visitors to Leap for a U-10 game. Not having done much work in the recent weeks the Kilmacs were a bit rusty but when they settled in to it there was a good game with little between the sides. Even though Iveleary got the result it was a good opportunity for some of the new young players to get their first taste of action.
As Cork is hosting the U-14 Feile hurling competition it has given Kilmacabea the opportunity to play in this competition. Kilmacabea will be hosts to a group from London on the weekend of 16-18th June 2006. Games will be played on Friday 16th June in Leap and Saturday 17th June in Skibbereen with the possibility of qualifying for finals in Cork on Sunday 18th June. There will also be a parade in Cork

        Weekly Notes 20 May 2006:

On Saturday 13h May the minor footballers played Ballinascarthy in their first game of the non-exam league in Ballinascarthy. Having played this group a number of times in the recent years and coming out on the wrong end of results every time they were under no great expectations. Despite being under intense early pressure which was not reflected in scores for the opposition Kilmacabea managed to be leading midway thro the first half. For the rest of the half Ballinascarthy had the upper hand and would have gone in much further ahead but for a last minute goal for Kilmacabea. The half time score was Ballinascarthy 2 –7 to Kilmacabea 2 –3. Kilmacabea started second half much better and displaying great attitude and work rate proceeded to take some excellent scores and take control of the game. In the last five minutes they bravely defended late Ballinascarthy pressure to rescue game. Tom French was inspirational throughout but there were excellent performances all over the field from each and every player. Team –Patrick O’Driscoll, Stephen Calnan, Sam O’Driscoll, Johnaton Hill, Kevin O’Sullivan, Kieran O’Donovan, Thomas French, Mark Jennings, John O’Driscoll, Jason Hamilton, Andrew O’Callaghan, Timothy Nyhan, Noel Ryan, Barry O’Sullivan, Conor O’Callaghan.
The minors were in action again on Tuesday night when they played Aghinagh in Leap. After playing reasonably well earlier on the team lost its shape and focus in the last 10 minutes and as a result lost the game.
The U-14 hurlers played Ilen Og on Monday 15th May and won comfortably.
The club would like to congratulate Claire O’Donoghue who was part of the Cork ladies senior football team who retained their league title when they defeated Meath recently.
Kilmacabea GAA Club held a very successful function in the Leap Inn on Friday 12th May 2006 when a press night was held to announce details of the proposed developments to the William Goulding Park and to launch the fundraising scheme to fund these developments. This will take the form of a draw which will take place on December 8th 2006.The meeting was very well attended with political representatives Mr Jim O’Keefe T.D., Senator Michael McCarthy and Councillors Joe Carroll, Jim Daly, Tadhg O’Donovan, Donal O’Rourke and Christy O’Sullivan.           Weekly Notes 13 May 2006:

On Friday 5th May the U-12 footballers played Kilmeen in the championship in Clonakilty. This was a fine game of football with little between the sides. The first half was fairly even. Kilmeen looked the stronger, better balanced side and started the better. The Kilmacs were defending well but were not making a huge impression in attack. Each side had their period of superiority with the lead changing and the sides went in at half time level on the score Kilmeen 1 – 3 Kilmacabea 0 – 6. For the second half Kilmeen were now playing with the fairly strong breeze and they looked like they were going to get on top and went in to a four point lead scoring a goal after six minutes. The Kilmacs rearranged their forces and they showed great heart in holding on to the game and they got the break they needed when Diarmuid O’Callaghan scored a goal on the eleventh minute. From here to the end they raised their game and pressed hard but were not getting the scores to reflect their effort. Oisin O Sullivan got a goal on the 24th minute and added another point a few minutes later. Kilmeen always looked dangerous on the counterattack and did pull a point back but all members of the Kilmac defence were doing their job excellently to limit the opportunities. At the end they held out to win on the score Kilmacabea 2 – 7 Kilmeen 2 – 5. This was a victory that owed much to their attitude and they can all take great satisfaction for their heart when it looked as if it might go against the after the first ten minutes of the second half. Best on the night were Niall Hayes, Eamon O’Sullivan, Liam Thompson, Kieran O’Sullivan, Oisín O’Sullivan and Denny Hayes. The team Liam Thompson, Liam O’Driscoll, Kieran O’Sullivan, Denny Hayes, Niall Hayes, Martin Collins, Declan O’Sullivan, Eamon O’Sullivan, Liam Cahalane, Richie O’Sullivan, Oisín O’Sullivan,  Diarmuid O’Callaghan, Aoife O’Neill, David O’Donovan, Emma O’Callaghan, Kevin O’Donovan, Eoghan Collins, Lorraine O’Donovan, Shane O’Neill, Fiona Whooley, Katie O’Sullivan, Odhran Connolly, Grace Tobin.
The Junior “A” footballers played Carbery Rangers on Saturday 6th May in Ross and won on the score 1- 9 to 1- 4. The team was missing a few regulars and did not perform that well but did enough to win.
The U-14 hurlers played Bantry on Monday 8th May and won comfortably.
Congratulations to Mount St Michael, Rosscarbery and the local representatives – Daniel O’Donovan, Ruairi Hourihane, John O’Driscoll and Kieran O’Donovan on winning the Cork Colleges “C” Football final on Wednesday 3rd April when they beat Mitchelstown.

This will be held in The Leap Inn, Leap at 8.00pm on this Friday 12th May 2006. All are welcome.

Congratulations to Mount St Michael and all the players from the neighbouring parishes who were part of the team.
On
Thursday 27/4/06 the U-12 footballers played St. Columns in the league in Leap. The first half was a even affair and their was little between the sides at halftime.           Weekly Notes 29 Apr. 2006:

The junior C team played Oliver Plunketts in Leap on Friday 21/4/06. The team started well but two early Oliver Plunketts goals meant that the Kilmacs were always chasing the game from early on. The team competed well after this and came back to go in at half time down on the score 2- 5 to 1-4. The goal being scored by Kevin McCarthy after a good move. The third quarter was a very even affair and a long period of pressure failed to yield scores. They were caught on the break for an Oliver Plunketts goal and they consolidated their position to win on the score 3- 7 to 1-7. Failure to make use of possession in the oppositions half meant that the Kilmac defence had to deal with a lot of pressure, which they coped with. With better use of possession they could have matched a team rated the best in this league. Team Sean Tobin, Eoghan Daly, Niall McCarthy, Barry Ronan, Michéal O’Donovan, Donie O’Donoghue, Adrian O’Driscoll, Barry Glavin, Kevin O’Driscoll, Brendan Crowley, Michael Tobin, Noel McCarthy, Kevin McCarthy, Aidan Glavin, Brian Calnan. Subs used- David Ronan, Peadar O’Leary, Brian O’Sullivan.
On Wednesday 20/4/06 the U-12 footballers played Kilmeen in the league. This was a good game with little between the teams and each team had their period on top. The Kilmacs did well to come back from 5 points down and the game finished level on the score Kilmac 3 – 5 to Kilmeen 2 – 8. The team Liam Thompson, Kieran O’Sullivan, Odhran Connolly, Martin Collins, Niall Hayes, Declan O’Sullivan, Eamon O’Sullivan, Oisin O’Sullivan, Denny Hayes, Katie O’Sullivan, Richie O’Sullivan, Diarmuid O’Callaghan, David O’Donovan, Emma O’Callaghan, Lorraine O’Donovan, Kevin O’Donovan, Shane O’Neill, Thomas French, Matthew O’Neill.
On Sunday 23/4/06 the U16 hurlers played Barryroe in the league. This was good game evenly contested with little between the sides. The Kilmacs eventually came out on top on the score 2 – 10 to 2 – 8. Team – Padraig Burke, Tom Collins, Stephen Calnan, John O’Sullivan, Sean O’Regan, Joseph Collins, Colin McCarthy, Conor O’Callaghan, Darren O’Callaghan, Eoghan O’Neill, Padraig McCarthy.
On Saturday there was great excitement in Leap when almost 50 youngsters from Kilmacabea and Clanna Gael played their first game in the under 10 football. Two games were played and they were a credit to all involved for their enthusiasm, attitude, effort and skill. On a fine day they gave great entertainment which was a pleasure to watch.

        Weekly Notes 22 Apr. 2006:

The Junior “A” team played Muintir Bhaire in the first round of the championship on  Sunday 16th April in Rath. On a fine day the team started excellently and for most of the first half were completely on top throughout the pitch. Dominating at midfield the team were in control and were clearly ahead. For all their dominance the scores were not coming. When Muintir Bhaire came more into the game towards the end of the half and they seemed to get a few scores with a lot less effort it looked as if the teams would go in with the Kilmacs not having the advantage to reflect their earlier dominance. Fortunately they got a break just before half time when Ger O’Donovan pounced for a goal. They had another escape immediately after half time when Timothy O’Donovan made a vital block to prevent a certain goal. At this stage Muintir Bhaire who were now playing with the slope and the wind and were in complete control and the Kilmacs had limited possession and were second best. When Muintir Bhaire goaled after 13 minutes of the second half they looked to be in the driving seat. Things got even worse for the Kilmacs in the 23rd minute when they had a man sent to the line (for what appeared dubious). Even though Muintir Bhaire went two points ahead with minutes to go the Kilmacs kept the effort going and from an attack the ball was played to Shane O’Brien who showed the finishers instinct and planted the ball in the back of the net to save the day.
Overall the team could consider themselves fortunate to have survived but they kept battling when things were going against them and this quality should stand to them in the future. The final score was Kilmacabea 2 – 7 and Muintir Bhaire  1- 9 with the Kilmacs kicking 12 wides. Team – Timothy O’Donovan, Ciaran O’Donovan, Brendan O’Driscoll, Timmie O’Mahony, Donacha McCarthy, Eoin O’Donovan, James Calnan, Daniel O’Donovan(0-1), Niall O’Brien(0-1), Noel O’Donovan, Karl McCarthy(0-4F), Ruairi Hourihane(0-1), Ger O’Donovan(1-0), Noel Crowley, Donie O’Donovan. Sub used – Noel O’Donoghue, Shane O’Brien(1-0), James O’Donovan.
The U-14 hurlers played Skibbereen in Leap on Monday 17/4/06. The first half was a close affair with little between the sides and the Kilmacs went in ahead by 2 points at halftime. In the second half with Joseph Collins and John O’Sullivan giving the cutting edge out the field and with Sean O’Regan and Niall Hayes controlling the half back line and Padraig Burke dependable in goal the Kilmacs were able to get the scores to give them the edge. The final score was Kilmacabea 3-9 to Skibbereen 1-3. Team – Padraig Burke,  Padraig McCarthy, John O’Sullivan(2-2), Sean O’Regan, Niall Hayes, Joseph Collins(0-6), Kevin Hayes, Shane Newman, Thomas Jennings, Darren O’Callaghan(1-0), Finnán Tobin, Oisin O’Sullivan(0-1), Liam Thompson.
Fixtures for the week ahead are as follows
Junior “C” Football vs. Oliver Plunketts in Leap on Friday 21/4/06 at 7.30pm
U16Hurling vs. Barryroe in Barryroe on Sunday 23/4/06 at 11.30am.
U10 Football vs. Clanna Gael in Leap on Saturday 22/4/06 at 11.00am

        Weekly Notes 15 Apr. 2006:

The U 12 footballers started their playing season when they had a convincing victory over Kilbrittain on Wednesday 5th April in Leap. They were in action again on Tuesday 11th April when they played away to Durrus. With a few key players off form due to illness the team never got going in the first half and were well out of it at half time and the game looked over. Having to make changes at half time the team went out in the second half and gave a tremendous performance and almost turned it around. It was fantastic to see what spirit and heart can do and they were a credit in their effort to turn what seemed like a lost cause. The weather again had an effect on activities last weekend with games not being played due to the condition of pitches.
The junior 1’s played an under strength St. Columns side on Sunday 2/4/06 in the Marsh, Skibbereen. The final score was 0 - 19 to 1 – 8 in the Kilmacs favour. It was important to get the game as the first round of the championship against Muintir Bhaire is fixed for Rath on Easter Sunday 16/4/06.

      Weekly Notes 1 Apr. 2006:

The past week was a very quiet week on the playing field. Hopefully the longer evenings and an improvement in the weather will lead to more games going ahead from now on.
The only group in action was the U16 footballers that travelled to Rath on Saturday morning to play a game that was played in atrocious conditions. They did well to play and even though they lost they deserve credit for playing in the conditions. Against a physically stronger side they were going to struggle in the conditions and this was reflected in the first half when they were well behind. They played well in the second half and were in it with five minutes to go but the concession of a soft goal was that bit too much to overcome in the conditions. Niall Twomey again played well in goal and every one tried hard. The final score was 4-4 to 2-4.
All other activities were washed out by the weather.
There are a number of fixtures fixed for this weekend and the following week but these will be very dependent on playing conditions. These are
U16 Football vs. Caheragh in Caheragh on Friday 31/3/06 at 6.30pm.
J3 Football vs. St. Oliver Plunkett’s in Ahiohill on Saturday 1/4/06 at 4.00pm
J1 Football vs. St. Columns in Leap on Sunday 2/4/06 at 3.00pm
U14 Hurling vs. Mizen in Goleen on Monday 3/4/06 at 7.00pm
U12 Football vs. Kilbrittain in Leap on Wednesday 5/4/06 at 7.00pm
U16 Football vs. Kilbrittain in Kilbrittain on Wednesday 5/4/06 at 7.00pm
As these fixtures are liable to change check locally prior to travelling
Off the field there is an important meeting being held in The Leap Inn on Friday 31st March at 9.00pm. This meeting is to discuss the development of the field and the organisation of financing for it. All adult members, players and parents of players and all interested members of the community are invited to attend, as this will be a major step in advancing the future of the field.

       Weekly Notes 25 Mar. 2006:

On Saturday 18th March the U-21’s played St. Mary’s at Ballinacarriga in the championship. On a bitterly cold day, with soft ground conditions and a gale force wind it was not a very appealing day for playing football. Playing with the wind in the first half it looked as if it would be a successful outing for the Kilmac lads when they went two points up in the first minute. This was to be the  high point of the game from a Kilmac point of view. Gradually the St. Mary’s team began to take control of the game and went on to win the game decisively. The half time score was 0-6 to 0-3 in favour of St. Mary’s. The Kilmacs did make an effort to regain control in the third quarter but were always chasing the game and were never comfortable in their play. The Kilmac players were working hard but the cohesion or spark was not there. Overall there were few Kilmac players that could be satisfied with their display. The best line on the day was the full back line of Barry Ronan, Michéal O’Donovan and Thomas French. Timothy O’Donovan was equal to his duties and Ruairi Hourihane put in a good effort on the day. The final score was 0- 14 to 0 – 5 in favour of St. Mary’s.
Team – Timothy O’Donovan, Thomas French, Michéal O’Donovan, Barry Ronan, Niall McCarthy, Ciarán O’Donovan, Donnacha McCarthy(0-1), James Calnan(0-1), Ruairi Hourihane, Kevin O’Sullivan, Daniel O’Donovan(0-1), Brian O’Sullivan, Mark O’Donovan, Ger O’Donovan(0-2), James Healey. Subs used Clive Sweetnam, Brian O’Donovan.
This team has an immediate opportunity to try to improve things as they play Barryroe in the losers round on Saturday 25th March at 5.00pm in Ballinascarthy. If not their season is over.
The U-16’s are fixed to play Illen Og away on Saturday 25th March at 11.30am.
The club are at present looking to develop a club crest. With this in mind the club are running a competition in the local schools to try to develop some ideas. The competition is to generate interest especially among the younger members of the community and to encourage their connection to the development of the club. The closing date is the 7th April 2006. Any member of the club or the community that feels inspired are more than welcome to submit any ideas they may have.

       Weekly Notes 18 Mar. 2006:

The junior “C” team travelled to play Clanna Gael on Saturday11th March also and put in a good performance to earn a draw. There were several good performances especially from Adrian O’Driscoll, Niall McCarthy and Shane O’Brien.

2.45pm
The U-16’S are fixed to play Kilbrittain  away on Saturday the 18th March at 4.00pm.
The club would like to congratulate John O’Driscoll, Ruairi Hourihane, Daniel O’Donovan and Kieran O’Donovan who were part of the Mount St. Michaels team who won the
Munster colleges final on Wednesday 8th March. They contributed handsomely with Daniel scoring 1-6, Ruairi 1- 1, and John 1- 1. We wish them well in the All Ireland stages.
For those who use modern technology Kilmacabea GAA now has its own website which can be accessed on www.kilmacabeagaa.com.        Weekly Notes 8 Mar. 2006:

The playing season is getting underway in stages for all groups. On Saturday 4th March The U-16’s started their season when they Played Pedlars Cross in Leap. This was a typical start of season game with the usual sorting out of players and positions. The team was short a player to start and this was reflected in the half time score, which was Pedlars 2 – 4, Kilmacabea 1 – 4. The team improved as the game went on and eventually won out on the score of 3 – 9 to 4 – 5. Niall Twomey played well in goal and Eoghan O’Neill also did well scoring 3 – 1. Stephen Calnan and Joseph Collins also did well. Team – Niall Twomey, Fiona O’Callaghan, Stephen Calnan, Joseph O’Callaghan, Donna O’Regan, Andrew O’Callaghan, Joseph Collins, John O’Sullivan(0-2), Conor O’Callaghan(0-2), Sean O’Regan, Timothy Nyhan(0-2), Eoghan O’Neill(3-1), Padraig Burke. The junior “C” team were away to Goleen also on Saturday and lost on the score 2 – 7 to 2 – 8.The junior “C” team were away to Goleen also on Saturday and lost on a score 2-7 to 2-8. This was a good performance from the lads in their first outing of the season and indeed with a little more composure in front of goal they could easily have won the game. There were very good performances in the backline from Adrian O’Driscoll and Barry Ronan with Brendan Crowley and Aidan Glavin battling hard in the forward division.Team: Timothy O’Donovan, Tom Ryan, Niall McCarthy, Barry Ronan, Adrian O’Driscoll, Eoghan Daly, Michael O’Donovan, Barry Glavin, Peader O’Leary, Brendan Crowley, James O’Donovan, Brian O’Sullivan, David Ronan, Aidan Glavin, Kevin McCarthy. Subs: Denis O’Donovan, Diarmaid O’Donovan.  The junior “A” team started their season at home to Muintir Bhaire on Sunday 5th March. This was a good contest with good football being played and was a good test for the team. The Kilmacs were on top for the first quarter but gradually Muintir Bhaire got the upper hand and they went in at half time ahead 0-6 to 0-4. When Muintir Bhaire got a goal immediately after half time it looked as if they were in control but the Kilmacs kept battling away. A fine move saw David Ronan score a goal and Ger O’Donovan equalised with a long-range kick on the stroke of full time. This was a game where the Kilmacs had to work very hard especially in defence and midfield to use their possession. Team Noel McCarthy, James Calnan, Brendan O’Driscoll, Ciaran O’Donovan, Timmy O’Mahony, Kevin O’Driscoll, Diarmuid O’Donovan, Eoin O’Donovan, Niall O’Brien, Noel O’Donoghue, Karl McCarthy, Noel O’Donovan, Donie O’Donovan, Noel Crowley, Ger O’Donovan. After the winter break and with the days getting longer it is the start of another playing year. The first group in competitive playing action were the minor footballers who travelled to Goleen to play the locals in the league on Sunday morning 19/2/06.
