         Weekly Notes 30 March 2008:

Kilmacabea under 21 performance in the Second Round against Bal.a few weeks ago, proved to be no flash in the pan. They repeated it again against the physically stronger Kilbrittain side in the semi final played in Ballineen on Easter Monday afternoon. This time it was without the influential Daniel O Donovan who is nursing a foot injury from the earlier game. Kilbrittain playing with the strong wind were first to score with a well taken point from play. Centre back Clive Sweetnam replied followed by another from centre forward John O Driscoll. An eight minute free brought Kilbrittain level. Ruairi Hourihane restored Kilmacs lead, a very satisfactory position playing against the strong slightly diagonal wind. In the fifteenth minute a turnover of possession on the forty saw Kilbrittain racing through for a well taken goal, to open a real gap between the sides for the first time. Preventing the challengers from building on this initiative was now crucial for the reigning champions Kilmacabea and not a man of the fifteen was found wanting. A well taken free by John O and another good point from mid fielder Ruairi was answered by like scores from Kilbrittain. Some good work by goalkeeper Colin McCarthy and tenacious defending, without conceding too many frees ensured that only the goal separated  the sides at the break.
With the wind at their backs it was now all to play for. John O Driscoll slotted over a point almost from the restart. Kilbrittain were now finding it hard to cope with his combination of strength, speed and skill and conceded two frees, which the same John O duly converted to draw level. Ruairi raced through to send over his third score from play to restore the lead, to the delight of the Western followers. Andrew O Callaghan who was doing well on the wing, sent over a good point, before Kilbrittain had their first score of the half, a point from play to leave the minimum between the sides, with twelve minutes gone. Ruairi, who was getting tremendous support from his midfield partner Kevin O Sullivan, raced through for another point from play. However Kilbrittain were by no means out of the game. They broke up the field time after time, but great work by Clive in the centre and Sam O Driscoll at full back, ably supported by Mark Jennings on the wing and corner backs Jonathan Hill and Stephen Calnan. Meanwhile penetrating runs of the fearless Tom French were causing all sorts of problems in the Black and Amber rearguard time and again. John O Driscoll was having the game of his life and second half substitute Colman O Riordan was making a good contribution. Timothy Nyhan was playing a very intelligent game at full forward, wouldn’t his late grandfather (and namesake) be proud of him? Frees were being conceded, four of which John O drove over to stretch the lead to six points, with time running out. Kilbrittain teams don’t ever surrender but the goal they needed to get back  in game didn’t come and they had to settle for two late points, one from play and a free, leaving the final score 0-15 to 1-8. A sixteen man performance out of the top drawer, put Kilmacs into the under 21B final for the third year in a row. Man of the match, for this writer, John O Driscoll.

Team: Colin McCarthy, Stephen Calnan, Sam O’Driscoll, Jonathan Hill, Mark Jennings, Clive Sweetnam (0-1), Tom French, Kevin O’Sullivan, Ruairi Hourihane (0-4), Richard Jennings, John O’Driscoll (0-9,0-7 frees), Andrew O’Callaghan (0-1), Conor O’Callaghan, Timothy Nyhan, Tom Collins. Subs: Colman O’Riordan, Patrick O’Driscoll and Joseph O’Callaghan.

        Weekly Notes 23 March 2008:

A very good first half performance gave Kilmacabea Junior 1 Footballers their first win of the season.   The opposition was St. Mary’s in a league game played in ideal conditions in Ballineen on Sunday 16th.  The home side opened brightly with a quick point and were dominating proceedings until a well taken goal by Karl McCarthy settled Kilmacs.  This was followed by a point by Clive Sweetnam, who went on to have a great game. St. Mary’s were awarded a penalty in the 12th minute which was saved by Timothy Donovan in goal.  Kilmacs went on to dominate the second quarter adding on five unanswered points including two from Karl McCarthy, one from Donie O’Donovan and one from Ger O’Donovan. Ger added another goal before half time to leave the score 1-6 to 0-1 in the visitors favour.  The second half was a more even affair with both sides scoring four points, three of the St. Mary’s scores coming from play, while three of the Kilmacs came from frees, with Donie O’Donovan adding another one from play.  Final score 2-10 to 0-5, a satisfactory outing for all those involved in the Kilmacabea camp.
Cloyne made the long trip to West Cork to take on the U-14 footballers in the county Feile competition for their first football game of the year. With a few players missing with injuries it looked a difficult task but as happens so often adversity is the true test for any team and so it proved again. As the competition is 15 a side it put even greater pressure on the resources but again the younger players who stepped up Diarmaid O’Callaghan, Martin Collins, Aishling Cahalane, Aidan Williamson, Jonathon O’Regan, Odrhan Connolly  without whom the team couldn’t have fielded more than held their own and made vital contributions to the overall team effort. After taking a while to settle early on the players started to develop an understanding and with each and every one giving their all they started linking effectively. At half time the score was 2-2 to 1-3 in favour of Cloyne. The Kilmacs continued in the second half to put in the effort in all round the field and passed the ball with good effect and the scores came and were able to push on for victory on the score line of 5-7 to 3-4. This was a result which was based on an outstanding effort and contribution by each and every member of the team working together and they can take great pride in their achievement.  Team Aidan Williamson, Fiona O’Sullivan(2-1), Liam O’Driscoll, Kieran O’Sullivan, Aishling Cahalane, Martin Collins, David O’Donovan, Liam Cahalane(0-2), Declan O’Sullivan, Oisin O’Sullivan(1-1), Liam Thompson(1-0), Richie O’Sullivan(0-1), Emma O’Callaghan, Diarmaid O’Callaghan(0-2), Jonathon O’Regan, Odrhan Connolly(1-0), Eamon O’Sullivan, Euan Tobin.

          Weekly Notes 16 March 2008:

The first competitive game was played on the redeveloped full size pitch when the U-16 footballers took on Gabriel Og in their first game of the season on Sunday morning 9th March. It was a fine day for what turned out to be a very entertaining game. Due to other commitments it was a struggle to get a full party but the younger lads who took to the field certainly did not let the side down. Gabriels had already a game under their belt and it showed as they were much faster and combining better. This was reflected on the scoreboard with Gabriels going in at half time comfortably ahead on the score of 2-8 to 1-3. With Gabriels getting another goal on the restart it could easily have  become a white wash on the scoreboard. Instead with a few positional switches and a huge work rate from the men around the middle, Joseph Collins, John O’Sullivan, Sean O’Regan and Thomas Jennings the Kilmacs raised their game and by the 24th minute of the half had took the lead. From here to the whistle the game swung from end to end and even though victory went to Gabriels on the score of 6-10 to 5-8 there was a lot of pluses to be taken from the game especially the attitude and effort of all. Team –Niall Hayes, Finnán Tobin, Eoin O’Neill, Padraig McCarthy, Thomas Jennings(1-0), Richie O’Sullivan, Joseph Collins(1-2), Sean O’Regan(0-1), Declan O’Sullivan, John O’Sullivan(0-4), Padraig French, Padraig Burke(1-1), Tommy Hayes(2-0)
The J.1.F.L. Match against Barryroe was deferred due to the death of Marie Hourihane RIP, a close relative of the team trainer. The club offers sincerest sympathy to the Hourihane family who have made a huge contribution to Kilmacabea GAA over many years.

          Weekly Notes 09 March 2008:

With so many of last years winning team having moved on, Kilmacabea travelled to Rosscarbery last Saturday, more in hope than confidence, to take on Ballinascarty in the first round of this years Under 21 B Football Championship. Starting with a very strong wind a first minute penalty was slotted home by Daniel O Donovan from the rebound. This gave Kilmacs the lead, which they built up with good point taking from frees and play, to turn over to face the almost gale force wind, 1-7 to 0-1 ahead. The second half brought out the best in this promising bunch of players. They worked very hard to carry the game to Bal who were boosted by a well taken goal in the fifth minute followed by a free. Kilmacs defence limited them to one further point. The hard work by the forwards eventualy paid off, with Timothy Nyhan fisting over a valuable score, followed by another good point from play by Andrew O Callaghan to put the game out of reach of luckless Ballinascarty. See a full report elsewhere in this issue.
We have come to expect big performances from men like Ruairi Hourihane, Daniel O Donovan and Clive Sweetnam. This we got without doubt and the O Driscoll brothers John and Sam as always showed up well. The workrate and commitment, in trying conditions of newer members of the panel like Mark Jennings, Jonathan Hill, Andrew O Callaghan and Timothy Nyhan was most heartwarming, as was the excellent kicking out into the wind of goalkeeper Colin McCarthy.
This Sunday morning the Under 16 footballers have the honour of playing the first competative match on the new pitch when they take on Gabriel Rangers in Leap at 11.30am. The Junior 1 footballers are at home also on Sunday against Barryroe at 3pm.

          Weekly Notes 02 March 2008:

The tremendously well laid out Gabriel Rangers Grounds in Ballydehob was the venue for our opening match of the year. Our second team met the hosts second team in section 2 of the Junior Football League under lights on Friday 22nd Feb. A very heavy dew was the only drawback on an otherwise perfect night for football. Scores from play were hard to come by, the slippery underfoot conditions probably affecting markmanship. Two well taken points from Niall O Brien proved very valuable. A goal on each side due to defensive errors, which may be due to the similarity of the jerseys, cancelled each other out. The Kilmac goal was a particularly soft one. Five converted frees, three by Noel Crowley and two by Karl McCarthy to three pointed frees and one from play for Gabriels completed the scoring, a rather fortunate three point win for Kilmacabea.
It was off to sunny Ahiohill on Sunday afternoon, for the Junior 1 league game against Oliver Plunketts. A fresh breeze towards the village end helped the home side who put Kilmacs defence under a lot of pressure in the first half. Five points from frees and three from play had Plunketts four ahead at half time. Kilmacabea's Donie O Donovan had opened their scoring with a point from play. Daniel O Donovan two from frees and Ger O Donovan one free completed their tally. A very good save from Timothy O Donovan just before the short whistle kept the contest alive.
With the breeze in the second half Kilmacs set about turning the tide. A good point from play by Noel McCarthy was cancelled by a similar score for the host club. Two pointed frees from Daniel made made the gap just two. However that was as close as they got. Ciaran O Donovan got into a discussion with experienced referee Donie McCarthy about the respective duties, with the inevitable result. Kilmacs were down to fourteen men. While they battled bravely to salvage the situation, the home side eventualy made their numerical advantage tell and got through for a goal and added one further point to run out five point winners. Not the best of outings for Kilmacabea but some valuable lessons may have been learned.
League games which were on the agenda for this weekend have been deferred, so the Under 21 Championship clash with Ballinascarty takes all the limelight. It takes place in
Newtown, Rosscarbery (old pitch) at 3pm Saturday 1st March.

          Weekly Notes 23 Febuary 2008:

Following last years major upgrading the club pitch is now in excellent condition after the recent spell of favourable
weather. A training timetable been drawn up for the various age groups. All players and prospective players should check with their own mentors or one of the officers about arrangements for their own panel.
The new seasons competative activity kicks off this weekend, with Kilmacabeas second string billed to play Gabriel Rangers counterparts in the Junior Football League, in Ballydehob at 7.30pm this Friday under lights. The Junior 1 team are travelling to Ahiohill, to play Oliver Plunkets in the same competition, at 3pm Sunday afternoon.

          Weekly Notes 16 Febuary 2008:

It may have seemed like two for the price of one, as Kilmacabea GAA celebrated their victories of 2006 and 2007 playing seasons, at their club Dinner Dance in the West Cork Hotel on Saturday night the 9th February but in fact all seven finals were played during the calender year 2007. It must have been unique achievement for the club to have successes in two seasons in a row in both football and hurling.
Pride of place must go to the small but enthusiastic panel of hurlers and their dedicated mentors, led by T.J. Collins, who are fostering the ancient game of the Gaels in what would be seen as traditional football country. The fact that they might have campaigned in C or D grade didn’t take in any way from the sense of achievement of all concerned. A few recruits from our neighbour’s territory across the harbour helped the cause.  A little help from your friends can be very valuable. One of those players has the distinction of winning Under 16 Championship medals in both football and hurling. The football was won with his home club Castlehaven. Medals were presented by club Vice President Fr. Pat O Sullivan MSC for the 2006 U.14 Hurling Championship and the 2007 U.16 Hurling Championship, with most the player being involved in both victories.
Fr O Sullivan presented plaques to the Minor Footballers who won County B 12 a side non exam League. They can be very proud of their achievement, it being only the third time that the club has ever captured a county title at any level. Next to receive their medals were the U.21 Footballers who clinched the B Championship in 2007, having been narrowly defeated in the 2006 final virtually the same group of players. The hield which was awarded to them as Buckley Finance Team of the Month of June was also on display to enhance the impressive array of trophies decorating the top table.
The final group to receive their Celtic Crosses from Fr. Pat were the 2006 Junior 1 League winners, again a first for the club at this level. Sincere thanks to the 2007
Winners Bandon for the loan of the Michael Godley Memorial Cup to honour the occasion. Also on display was the All Ireland Junior 7 a side Shield won a competition hosted by St Jude’s Club in
Dublin. Cill Mhic Abaidh add their name to an impressive spread of clubs from Cork to Donegal
The formalities were completed with the presentation of new individual awards to be presented annually to Club Members of the Year. Diarmaid O Donovan presented the Timothy O Donovan Memorial Cup in memory of his brother, to Sam O Driscoll as Young Player of 2007. Sam just pipped one or two other under age players in the votes of the members. Timothy O Donovan who lost his life in 1993 at the early age of fifteen had won three Under 14 Football Championship medals, a rare enough distinction.  The evergreen Timmy O Mahony was awarded the Player of the Year Trophy for his outstanding defensive displays in 2007. Did he ever have a bad year since he first pulled on the green and gold jersey?  Finally hardworking club honorary secretary  John O Sullivan was presented with a plaque Club Person of the Year. His work load was doubled if not trebled in 2007 with all the administration involved in fund raising and grounds development.
The two hundred patrons were well looked after by the West Cork Hotel management and staff and were entertained until the early hours of Sunday morning by John O Brien musical duo. Chairman Patrick Burke and M C John Keohane can be well pleased with their nights work.

          Weekly Notes 12 January 2008:

At the recent AGM of Kilmacabea GAA Club the year just ended was seen as a very satisfactory one, on and off the field, despite the failure to progress beyond the third round of the Junior 1 Football Championship. The year had started very well with victory in the delayed 2006 League Final in the same grade, the first trophy ever won by the club at that particular level. In June the beautiful O Sullivan Memorial Trophy was annexed by winning the under 21B Football Championship. July brought County B Non Exam Minor Football League Final victory.
During the year the playing pitch in
John William Goulding Park was extended and upgraded and funding was put in place to build new dressing rooms and ancillary facilities. Gratitude was expressed to neighbouring clubs O Donovan Rossas, Carbery Rangers and Castlehaven for their generosity in allowing the use of their grounds for our League games during the season and to Skibbereen Rugby Club and Sean O Mahony, Barleyhill for providing grounds for training.
Among a number of motions passed by the meeting was one establishing a “Player  Of The Year” award, to be presented each year at both adult and under age level. The election of officers was very straightforward. The only change was Donal O Donovan coming in for Michael Tobin who had stepped down as PRO. Michael agreed to stay on as assistant PRO for the under age section. Brendan O Driscoll and Donie O Donovan were selected as Players Representatives. Congratulations to Brendan and Pauline on the birth of their baby son Niall Bernard.
The following were appointed to take charge of teams for the coming year .Dan Hourihane, Junior 1 Football; Aiden Glavin, Junior 2 Football, Michael O Donovan, Under 21 Football; Minor football, Sean Tobin.

Reserve Saturday 9th of February for our club dinner in the West Cork Hotel, Skibbereen.   Tickets will be available from John Keohane or any member of the finance committee.

          Weekly Notes 22 December 2007:

With little activity on the playing field those interested in the well being of Kilmacabea GAA are reminded that the Annual General Meeting of the club both adult and juvenile takes place on Sunday 30th December in the Community Hall, Leap at 2.30pm sharp. It is of the utmost importance that all who are interested in the well being of the club attend. This is their opportunity to input to the operation of the club and how it is conducted. Items will be discussed that will impact on all involved with the club so it is important that people take the opportunity to have their say and improve things.

Kilmacabea GAA would like to wish every body a Happy Christmas and a prosperous New Year.

Nollaig Shona.

          Weekly Notes 24 November 2007:

The U15 footballers continued their programme when Clondrohid  made the journey to Rosscarbery to play on Sunday 18th November. After starting well the game settled and the teams were level midway through the first half with exchanges even. The Kilmacs started to win the middle of the field and reflected  this advantage after a good move finished with Padraig French goaling. The Kilmacs went in ahead at half time Kilmacabea 2-4 Clondrohid 1-3. The Kilmac started the second half taking the game to their opponents and had extended their lead midway through the half. Clondrohid who were working hard did get back into the game and reduce the lead towards the end but the Kilmacs always had the edge and went on to win 3-9 to 1-8. Niall Hayes showed great awareness in the full back line and Padraig McCarthy also had his moments. Joseph Collins and Thomas Jennings were always on top at midfield. John O’Sullivan led the attack well. Padraig Burke worked well and Padraig French took his goals well. These got good contributions from everyone especially as a few players were missing. Team Liam Cahalane, Niall Hayes, Padraig McCarthy, Richie O’Sullivan, Eamon O’Sullivan, Denny Hayes, Joseph Collins(0-3), Thomas Jennings, Kevin Hayes, John O’Sullivan(1-4), Padraig Burke(0-2), Liam Thompson, Padraig French(2-0), Tommy Hayes.

Fixture for weekend (Provisional) U15 football vs. Iveleary Sunday 25th November away.

The parish Score competition was held in the Hall on Sunday 11th November 2007 and provided a great evenings entertainment. The winners in each category in Scor na Og go forward to the next round which will be in 2 weeks in Rossmore. Thanks to Helen O’Neill who was a capable M.C and organiser for the evening.
Some of the participants in the Scor were also in action the day before when the U12 League final vs. Dunmanus was replayed in Drimoleague. Playing reasonably well early on they received a bad blow with 5 minutes remaining in the half with the concession of two easy goals and giving away another just at half time it looked all over. With another goal conceded at the start of the second half it would have been understandable if they gave up but showing great spirit they kept going and with 10 minutes to go the gap was down to 4 points. Unfortunately the effort took its toll and the stronger Dunmaus were able to close out the game. While they were disappointed they deserve great praise for the way they played especially in the second half in a fine sporting game played in the right spirit. Team Odhran Connolly, Fiona O’Sullivan, Shane O’Neill, Euan Tobin, Martin Collins, Aishling Cahalane, Niall Hayes, Declan O’Sullivan, Aidan Williamson, Richie O’Sullivan, Bernadette O’Driscoll, Diarmuid O’Callaghan, Eoin O’Sullivan, Kevin Whooley, Kevin O’Donovan, Thomas French, Shane Garvey, Damien Gore.
The U15 footballers were in action on Sunday morning when they took on Kilmeen in Rossmore. Putting in a good effort they showed great commitment to earn a clear win. Congratulations to recent club winners in The Cork County Board draw - Margaret and Finbarr O’Driscoll, Aughadown and Peter Crowley, Cappnaboha.

          Weekly Notes 27 October 2007:

The U 16 hurlers took on Ardfield in the championship final on Sunday 21st October in Rosscarbery. After getting the ideal start with a goal and a point in the first minute the early exchanges were even. The team were playing well within themselves and had a physically advantage when they received a major set back when a player was sent off for a clumsy challenge after 10 minutes. As they were only a point ahead at this stage this looked like a major blow early in the game. The next 10 minutes were even as both sides came to grips with the situation. In the last 10 minutes of the half the Kilmacs had managed to extend their lead to 3 points when they were dealt what appeared to be further severe blows with the concession of two goals coming up to half time and went in down on the score 1-5 to 3 –2. With the concession of a further point at the start of the second half and with Padraig Burke making a great save it looked as if it might not be the Kilmacs day. They were now working very hard throughout the pitch and got to grips with the numbers disadvantage and were creating opportunities but not taking them. They got the break they needed when Colin McCarthy(1-1) got a goal in the 4th minute. This lifted the team and with the effort of every player they increased the tempo and eventually regained the lead mid way thro the half. From here to the end it was close but the Kilmacs were on top possession wise but again were not reflecting it on the score board. It was nip and tuck to the end but in the last minute as in the first John O’Sullivan(2-3) split the defence to goal and to copper fasten a deserved victory. The final score was 3-10 to 3-6. As well as those already mentioned Joseph Collins((0-5) and Michael Dineen were the power house at midfield, Richard(0-1) and Thomas Jennings were very lively, Sean O’Regan, Eoghan O’Neill and Liam Cahalane were on top of their game in defence. Other panel members were Kevin Hayes, Padraig McCarthy, Liam Thompson, Tommy Hayes.
Most of these players were in action on Saturday when a game was played against the
London visitors Tir Chonaill Gaels. This was an enjoyable social experience with a presentation and reception  after the game. The visitors also played Clonakilty and had some fine footballers. Rick Williamson, Knockskagh is involved with this group as are some other West Cork people and they were very welcome.
Congratulations to Noel O’Donoghue and Anne Marie Hurley who got married in Glandore on Friday 19th October. The club wishes them a great future.
There is a club nite out in the Morris Arms Connagh on Saturday 27th October at
10pm. All club members are invited to have a social night together. Music is by John O’Brien and there is no cover charge.

          Weekly Notes 13 October 2007:

The minor footballer’s season ended in disappointment when they lost in the championship semi- final to Argideen Rangers. The game was played under lights in the superb facilities of Castlehaven on Wednesday 10th October. The team were well on top possession wise in the first half but did not convert this in to scores and were not playing with their usual spark. Running up 9 wides as against 3 and going in 3 points down on the scoreboard at half time it was clear that it was going to be difficult to achieve a result especially with the loss through injury of the teams physical and mental leader and so it proved. The team kept working hard but the more they chased the easier it was to get caught and it proved beyond them. While the players were disappointed with their performance they can feel satisfied they put in the effort and their effort over the year has shown improvement throughout. The club wishes Sam O’Driscoll a speedy recovery.
There was also disappointment for the Junior C footballers when they were defeated by Barryroe in the championship at the weekend.
There was better news when the U-13 footballers played Aghinagh in Leap on Sunday 14th. Playing with great enthusiasm and application they fashioned out a worthy victory. This was due to the all out effort of each and every player for the cause and confirms to these players what they are capable of doing with the right attitude. Team Denny Hayes, Kieran O’Sullivan, Liam O’Driscoll, Fiona O’Sullivan, Declan O’Sullivan, Martin Collins, Niall Hayes, Liam Cahalane, Richie O’Sullivan, Liam Thompson, Oisin O’Sullivan, Emma O’Callaghan, Diarmuid O’Callaghan, Thomas French, and Eoghan Collins.
Congratulations to neighbours Castlehaven on their recent County success at U21

          Weekly Notes 06 October 2007:

The U-12 footballers played Dunmanus in the league play off on Thursday 27th September in Aughaville. Having been well beaten when the sides played earlier in the league it looked as if this game was going to follow that pattern when Dunmanus took early control and appeared well on top. The move of Diarmuid O’Callaghan to wing back was to have a huge effect in curtailing the Dunmanus attacks and with an all round settling of the team led to an exciting half  and the teams went in level. The first 10 minutes of the second half again were evenly matched with few scores. When Dunmanus burst through for two goals after this it looked as if they might pull away but the Kilmac’s kept playing and showing great spirit pulled the game back. The game ended in a draw which was a fair reflection of both sides effort. Odhran Connolly made a number of superb saves  during the game. Shane O’Neill and Fiona O’Sullivan were very solid at the back. Martin Collins, Niall Hayes and Declan O’Sullivan got through a huge amount of work around the middle of the field to keep the team moving and Richie O’Sullivan was sharp in the forwards.  They got good support from Euan Tobin, Ashling Cahalane, Shane McDermott, Aidan Williamson, Eoghan O’Sullivan, Bernadette O’Driscoll and Kevin Whooley.
The U10 footballers travelled to  Inchigeelagh on Friday  and had a very enjoyable game against the home team and continued to show improvement. Thanks to all the parents who made the long trip.
The U16 footballers took on Ilen Og in the championship on Tuesday 2nd October in Skibbereen. Being short some bodies and struggling in the physical size stakes it was not a very enjoyable night and their efforts went unrewarded on this occasion.
Fixtures for the coming week –
U13 football vs. Clondrohid in Clondrohid on Sunday 7th October
Minor football c/ship vs. Timoleague in Castlehaven  on Friday 12th October at
8.00pm
As these fixtures are liable to change check before travelling.

          Weekly Notes 29 September 2007:

The minor footballers were finally in championship action after numerous false starts when they took on Barryroe in Ardfield on Tuesday 25th September. While the early exchanges were even the Kilmac's with the advantage of the wind settled and playing good controlled football and combining well were ahead 0-10 to 0-4 at half time. Starting the second half with the same attitude they were rewarded with 2 goals in the early minutes finished by Mark Jennings and John O’Sullivan. This put them in a commanding position but from here to the end they had to face a determined comeback from Barryroe and at times rode their luck to fashion out a 3 point victory. This was a complete team effort and the result owes as much to the all round effort as to the fluency of the football and every player played his part. Leading the way were Kevin O’Sullivan’s ball winning, Clive Sweetnam's control, Sam O’Driscoll's shear determination and Colin McCarthy's quality kicking  but every player can take  pride in their contribution. The final score was Kilmacabea 2-12 Barryroe 2-9. Team Joseph Collins, Stephen Calnan, Sam O’Driscoll, Jonathon Hill, Clive Sweetnam, Brendan McCarthy, Kevin O’Sullivan, Andrew O’Callaghan(0-2), Mark Jennings(1-1), Colin McCarthy(0-7), John O’Sullivan(1-2), Timothy Nyhan, Niall Twomey, Richard Jennings, Tom Collins, Conor O’Callaghan.
Congratulations to Clare O’Donoghue, Maultrahane who was part of the Cork Senior Ladies football team who continued making history in recording their third All Ireland title in a row with a victory over Mayo on Sunday 23rd September.
Congratulations to Karen Wolfe, Glandore (whose family would have strong links with Kilmacabea GAA) who married Daniel Duggan Cork in Glandore on Friday 14th September. The club wishes the couple  a happy life together.

          Weekly Notes 22 September 2007:

While it was a extremely disappointing week for most Cork people in Dublin last weekend the pain was softened for Kilmacabea followers by the performance of the Juniors in the St. Judes GAA All Ireland 7 a side competition on Saturday 15th.
Having no experience of this type of competition it was with enthusiasm the group travelled. The day began at 9.30 with a game against Crossmolina of Mayo which was won well. This was followed by a win over Bray Emmetts of Wicklow. Next was a win over An Portmore, Co. Armagh. The fourth game was against Naomh Brid, Co Donegal and the concession of  two soft goals was too much to overcome and they lost by a goal. Winning the final group game against St. Kevin’s of Co. Louth meant that they finished second in their group and qualified for the plate semi-final. Here they had a one point win over Oilean Aran of
Galway and played the plate final against Glanmire of Cork. Being 5 points down at half time looked as if they were in  trouble but showing great fitness and determination they fought to the end to swing the game in their favour and win the plate final. This was a great day out for them with the result a just reward after playing over 114minutes in the day in a demanding atmosphere and it was 8.30pm before the day finished. The panel of players were Timothy O’Donovan, Michéal O’Donovan, Barry Ronan, Ruairi Hourihane, Donacha McCarthy, Ger. O’Donovan, John O’Driscoll, Niall McCarthy, Clive Sweetnam, James Calnan, Brian O’Sullivan.
In recent weeks the U16’S have seen championship action in both hurling and football. The U 16 hurlers played Mizen and being physically stronger were always in control. Team Padraig Burke, Eoin O’Neill, Sean O’Regan, Thomas Jennings, Liam Cahalane, Joseph Collins, Conor O’Callaghan, Colin McCarthy, Richard Jennings, John O’Sullivan, Michael Dineen, Tommy Hayes, Denny Hayes, Liam Thompson, Oisin O’Sullivan. The U16 footballers also had a comfortable win over Gabriel Rangers. Team Conor O’Callaghan, Eoin O’Neill, Padraig McCarthy, Joseph O’Callaghan, Colman O’Riordan, Thomas Jennings, Colin McCarthy, Joseph Collins, Richard Jennings, Sean O’Regan, Padraig Burke, John O’Sullivan, Liam Cahalane, Tommy Hayes, Denny Hayes, Liam Thompson, Oisin O’Sullivan.
The U10’s have also played some games and are growing in their skills and performance. St Mary’s also came to Leap to play a U13 hurling game in what was a good exercise for those of the team that were available.
Congratulations to Peadar O’Leary and Alexi Sloane
who were married in Glandore on Saturday 16th. The club wishes them a happy life together.
Fixtures for the coming week –
U16 football championship vs. Ilen Og on Friday 21st September in Skibbereen at
6.15pm.
The Minors were due to be in championship action during the week but the game was cancelled with little regard for the club or the players involved.

          Weekly Notes 01 September 2007:

Competitive fixtures have been fairly quiet in recent weeks with some underage games only having been played . Things have got busier in the  past week. On Tuesday 21st July the U-16 hurlers took on Bantry in the championship. Going into the game with little work done  they surpassed themselves and ran out comfortable winners . The team was Padraig Burke, Eoghan O’Neill, Padraig McCarthy, Sean O’Regan, Thomas Jennings, Joseph Collins, Michael Dineen, Richard Jennings, Colin McCarthy, John O’Sullivan, Conor O’Callaghan, Tommy Hayes, Denny Hayes, Liam Cahalane, Liam Thompson. The junior “C” footballers played Clonakilty in the championship on Thursday 23rd August. Featuring a nice blend of youth and experience the team played some excellent football. The sides were level at half time but the Kilmacs tore in to the game for the second half and could have won much more convincing but for the concession of two rather soft goals. It was a good performance with the defence playing well and the attack all scoring and led by the senior members James O’Donovan, Noel Crowley and Aidan Glavin who showed their ability. The final score was 1-17 to 2-9. Team John O’Donovan, Sam O’Driscoll, Barry Ronan, Adrian O’Driscoll, Michéal O’Donovan, Thomas French, Kevin O’Driscoll, Peadar O’Leary, Paul Tobin(0-2), James O’Donovan(0-6(4f), Brian O’Sullivan(0-1), Kevin McCarthy(1-1), Aidan Glavin(0-4), Noel Crowley(0-3).
The U 12 hurlers were in Championship action against Bantry on Monday 27thy August in Rath. The team were on top in the first half but were not able to reflect their possession in scores and the concession of two goals against the run of play in the first half and another at the start of the second half meant they had it all to do. Putting in a great effort they tried their hardest and had the gap down to 3 points with 5 minutes to go amid great excitement. Unfortunately the concession of another goal at this stage meant they had it all to do again and even though they kept going to the end it was not to be their night. Even though disappointment was their lot they have to be admired for their spirit. Final scores Kilmacabea 2-4 Bantry 4-3. Team Kevin Whooley, Odrahan Connolly, Shane O’Neill, Diarmaid O’Callaghan, Stephen O’Neill, Niall Hayes, Declan O’Sullivan, Aidan Williamson, Martin Collins, Richie O’Sullivan, Eoghan O’Sullivan, Jack Tobin, Euan Tobin.
Congratulations to all club members who were involved in the All Ireland Rowing championship held in Union Hall on Saturday /Sunday 25th and 26th August and especially the ladies U-14  crew of Jennifer O’Callaghan, Aoife McDonald, Ciara McDonald and Lisa Cronin and the U16 crew of  Colin McCarthy, Liam Cronin, John O’Sullivan, Joseph O’Callaghan with Clare Sweetnam cox to both crews who won gold.
Congratulations to Aidan Glavin and his wife Paula on the recent birth of their daughter Andrea.

          Weekly Notes 04 August 2007:

The U-14 footballers took on Clanna Gael in the championship in Skibbereen on Friday evening 27/7/07. This was a disappointing night as they were playing an excellent footballing side that were physically stronger and the team were comprehensively beaten. The players gave their best in what was always likely to be a fruitless effort and they earned credit for that. This championship was for thirteen a side and it does raise questions about gradings when a team has as many subs as are playing with plenty of players up to the age and it does undermine the creditability of the competition as a whole and does little to further the aims of the association especially for those playing.
These players did themselves great credit when they put that disappointment behind them and turned up in Skibbereen to play the home team in an u14 hurling festival tournament on Saturday. While they went down by 2 points they played well throughout the pitch and in an even game the result could have gone either way. The U12 hurlers also played Skibbereen and they were successful after a very strong second half performance. Both of these games were played in downpour conditions but this did not detract in any way from the level of performance.
A very enjoyable night was had by the players and their families in The Leap Inn on Friday night when the U-21 footballers were presented with the Buckley Financial services award for team of the month.
There is a club nite out in The Leap Inn on Saturday 4th August at
10pm and all are encouraged to come along for a social night away from the pitch activities.

          Weekly Notes 28 July 2007:

The junior “A” footballers played Muintir Bhaire in the quarter final of the championship on Sunday 22nd July in Rath.  For this group having put a huge personal input into preparing it was an extremely disappointing night for the club. The game was played in extremely heavy rain so it was going to be as much about coping with the physical conditions as well as playing football. The game was tight with little between the sides. Kilmacabea started positively and were 0-3 to 0-1 ahead after 5 minutes but from here to the end were not winning enough possession around the middle of the field. A goal was disallowed mid half on a day when scores were hard to come by and the sides went in level 0-3 each at half time. Kilmacabea got what should have been a huge boost with a goal at the start of the second half but it did not give the team the lift and the loss of Ger. O’Donovan in the scoring of it was a loss. From here it was Muintir Bhaire who dominated the game and went on to be deserving winners on the score of 0-9 to 1-3. This was a tough result on this group and those associated with them who had put in a huge effort. Good luck to Muintir Bhaire.
The U16 hurlers were in action against St. Mary’s on Monday and while they lost put in a creditable performance.
There is a presentation to the U21 footballers for July team of the month in Carbery presented by Buckley Financial Services, Dunmanway in The Leap Inn on Friday 27th July at
9.30pm. All are welcome.
Fixtures for the coming week –
U14 football championship  vs. Clanna Gael on Friday 27th July at
7.30pm at Skibbereen.
U12 Hurling – Skibbereen Festival tournament Saturday 28th July at
12pm
U14 Hurling – Skibbereen Festival tournament Saturday 28th July at 11.30am

A club Nite Out is being held on Saturday 4th August in Leap Inn at
10pm. It would be good for all those involved in the club at all levels to meet socially.

          Weekly Notes 06 July 2007:

The minor non-exam team continued the clubs good week when they took on Bishopstown in Ahiohill on
Wednesday 27-6-07 in the final. Bishopstown started in a hurry and showing great skill looked a team of all talents and were completely on top from the start. One of the turning points of the game came in the first minute. Bishopstown were awarded a harsh penalty but Joseph Collins produced a superb save to keep the sheet clean. Bishopstown continued to dominate possession for the next 10minutses but kicked some good scoring chances wide and the Kilmac's were doing well to be behind 0-1 to 0-2 after 11 minutes when a second turning point came. Again Bishopstown cut through the Kilmac defence but were denied by another outstanding save from Joseph Collins. From this the team seemed to lift themselves all round the field. The defenders were now on top of their game and the Kilmac's were winning possession. In possession they were moving the ball excellently and were now creating and scoring and playing superb football throughout the pitch. Ball was played accurately from defence to attack and converted to the extent that the Kilmac's were 0-7 to 0-3 ahead coming up to the halftime whistle when a third crucial moment came. After another attack Mark Jennings strike for a point deceived the Bishopstown goal keeper and looped into the corner of the goal so that the Kilmac’s went in ahead on the score 1-7 to 0-3. Coming out at the start of the second half they continued where they left off and extended their lead by 2 points. Bishopstown were always dangerous and they broke through for a goal after 5 minutes. The Kilmac's were still winning possession but now unlike the first half they were giving away possession easily and started to look nervous and were now amassing the wides. Being able to bring on a player of Kevin O’Sullivans(returning from injury) ability after 15 minutes when the gap was down to 5 points was a big boost and the Kilmac’s were able to weather the pressure and went  on to win on the score of 1-11 to 1-4. This was a all round superb performance. Joseph’s saves were crucial in keeping the Kilmac’s in the game early on. Captain Sam O’Drsicoll produced his usual dynamic performance leading from the front and winning ball he had no right to and Stephen Calnan was rock solid beside him. Clive Sweetnam was a giant at centre back driving the team forward scoring (0-1)and got great support from Jon Hill and Thomas Jennings who once they settled, mastered their dangerous opponents. Brendan McCarthy(0-1) was effective in getting through a huge amount of work at midfield. The attack with Colin McCarthy leading the scoring with 6 points from play and frees, Mark Jennings(1-1), Timothy Nyhan (0-2), Andrew O’Callaghan and Sean O’Regan were  superb as a unit with excellent passing and movement and running off the ball and created and scored some excellent points. John O’Sullivan was an effective sub and Padraig Burke, Richard Jennings, Joseph O’Callaghan and Colman O’Riordan were also part of this success. This was a fine game of football played in the right spirit throughout by both teams and was a pleasure to watch. Bishopstown had very skilful and dangerous players but the saves by Joseph and the all round effectiveness of the defensive work must have been soul destroying for them. Well done to referee who had no trouble with two teams that played the game.
This group of Kilmacabea  players have worked as hard as any team with little success over the years but they have never faltered and it is a credit to their own determination as well as their ability that they have succeeded. Well done to what the mentors Sean Tobin and Michael Gore with help from Johnny O’Sullivan have achieved with this group.
The u 14 hurlers played Gabriel Og in the championship in Rath on Thursday 28th June. Putting in a great effort they were in the contest for 40 minutes when they tired and after giving a very creditable performance were eventually defeated on the score 3-4 to 7-6.
Fixtures for the coming week –
U14 football vs. St. Marys on Thursday 5th July at
7.30pm at Ballineen
U12 football vs. Barryroe on Monday 9th  July at
7.30pm. Venue TBA
U18 football vs. Argideen Rangers on Monday 9th  July at
8pm at Timoleague

          Weekly Notes 30 June 2007:

Victory was the just reward for the U 21’s when they played Caheragh in the final of the championship on Sunday 24th June in Kealkil. Going into the game without the services of two players it was felt that they would have a difficult test but as happens adversity is the true test of the man. This group of players have been together from underage and have experienced some down days along the way but they put all this behind them on Sunday to fashion a deserved victory. In the first half the Kilmac's were playing into the wind and when Caheragh started well and went two points up it looked as if it may be Caheragh’s day. The Kilmac's were not having any of it and with Daniel O’Donovan putting over 2 fine 45’s the game was evenly balanced at 0-4 each after 10 minutes. The Kilmac's had a let off in the 12th minute when Caheragh had a goal disallowed and soon after Timothy O’Donovan made a great save to prevent a certain goal, The sides were tied at 6 points each after 21minutes when the vital score came Kilmac's way. After typical Sam O’Driscoll defending, Ruairi Hourihane split open Caheragh with a powerful run before parting to Ger O’Donovan who goaled with his usual style. This allowed the Kilmac's to go in a goal ahead at half time. Getting a quick point on the restart allowed them to absorb some Caheragh pressure but with the everyone working very hard for the cause the Kilmac's were able to lift their game and were in control and went on to win on the score 1-13 to 0-10. This was a game with some fine football and was played in good spirit on the whole. This was a superb team performance. The leading lights produced their expected goods but it was the performance of the others that won the game. Timothy O’Donovan was dependable in goal and his kick outs good. The full back line of Barry Ronan, Niall McCarthy and Sam O’Driscoll were heroic. Time after time winning ball and clearing their lines. The half back line of Clive Sweetnam, Michéal O’Donovan and Thomas French had a battle royal but came out on top. Ruairi Hourihane and James Calnan gave the Kilmac's the advantage around the middle. Daniel O’Donovan showed his undoubted ability winning important ball when needed and linking with the attack and scoring some fine scores. Ger O’Donovan was his usual class in everything he did also getting some fine scores. John O’Driscoll won a lot of ball and was dangerous. Brian O’Sullivan, Timothy Nyhan, and Mark Jennings worked very hard and linked well as an attack. Andrew O’Callaghan and Brian O’Donovan also did their bit. For the small panel of 19 players this was a great reward for their effort and skill and was richly deserved. Well done to mentors, Dan Hourihane, John Keohane and Michael O’Donovan.
The minor footballers took on Clondrohid in the semi final of the non-exam league in Enniskeane on Thursday evening 14th June. As has been the case through their campaign they settled early and playing good entertaining football were well worth their early lead. Clondrohid had some good players and they came back into it and had closed the gap to 3 points at half time. On the resumption the Kilmacs again started well and with all players responding to the challenge ran out clear winners in the end on the score 3-9 to 0-7. The goals in the first half by Andrew O’Callaghan and Sean O’Regan were vital in turning the game Kilmacs way and giving them the cushion. As usual with this team, every one is doing their job very well and have exceeded expectations in reaching the final. This group are proof of what can be achieved with hard work, good football and the right attitude. Team – Joseph Collins, Stephen Calnan, Sam O’Driscoll, Thomas Jennings, Clive Sweetnam, Colman O’Riordan, Brendan McCarthy, Colin McCarthy, Mark Jennings, Sean O’Regan, Andrew O’Callaghan, Timothy Nyhan, John O’Sullivan, Jonathon Hill, Padraig Burke. The notes on the final against Bishopstown (2nd team) are printed below in the news.
The club would like to wish a speedy recovery to Ciaran O’Donovan on his recent injury.
Other Fixtures for the coming week –

        Weekly Notes 16 June 2007:

The only group in action this week were the U10 hurlers who played their first game of the season when they played Pedlars Cross in Leap on Saturday 9th June. For some this was also their first proper game so it was a huge learning experience. This was obvious early on as it took them a while to get their bearings. This was a good introduction against a stronger and skilful Pedlars team. As the game progressed they showed great enthusiasm and were improving as they settled. Given the age of the group they showed plenty to work with. Importantly they all got the opportunity to play in ideal conditions Team: Luke Read, John Patrick Sheehan, Tiernan Kerrisk, Darren Whooley, D.J. Glanton,  Eoghan O’Sullivan, Myles Tobin, Matthew O’Neill, Ciáran French, Karl Ronan, Timothy O’Donovan, Ross Cantwell, Iona Tobin, Aishling O’Callaghan, Dylan Morgan.
The club had two representatives Ruairi Hourihane and Donacha McCarthy on the Carbery team that were beaten by Ballincollig in the County senior football championship at the weekend.

          Weekly Notes 09 June 2007:

The minor footballers continued their non exam league programme when they took on Delaneys in Rosscarbery on Tuesday evening 5th June. Starting well and keeping their head they settled into their game and went into an early lead. Having got caught for a sucker punch goal they showed great character and responded to restore their lead at half time. They continued the second half playing fast flowing football and despite pressure from Delaneys the players kept their heads to fashion a superb win on the score 2-10 to 1-7. A feature of the display was the discipline of all the team in the face of some extraordinary provocation. Each and every man put in a huge effort closing down space and making themselves available to receive when in possession. Prospects for this group are good if they continue with the work ethic and discipline shown during this game. Team – Joseph Collins, Stephen Calnan, Sam O’Driscoll, Thomas Jennings, Clive Sweetnam, Jonathon Hill, Brendan McCarthy, Colin McCarthy, Mark Jennings, Sean O’Regan, Andrew O’Callaghan, Timothy Nyhan, John O’Sullivan. This victory was notable in the manner it was achieved and that it was achieved without one of the team’s most influential players. The club would like to wish Kevin O’Sullivan a speedy recovery.
The U14 hurlers travelled to St Columns on Thursday 31st May. As soon as the teams stepped on the pitch it was clear that this was not going to be Kilmacs night as they were at a severe disadvantage physically. Once the game started it was also clear that the skill level of the opposition was higher and it does call in to question what grading system is used for a league intended to develop hurling.  Credit to all the players as they put in a huge effort and competed whole heartedly and they can be proud that they kept playing and never gave up when they were clearly at a disadvantage. Victory went to St. Columns.
The under 12 hurlers played Bantry in Skibbereen on  Monday 3rd June. Early on it seemed as if Bantry had a higher skill level and looked like they would prevail. As often happens at this age the Kilmacs did not let this deter them and playing with great intensity and no little skill they proceeded to take the game to Bantry and should have won if they could convert their abundant possession into scores. Niall Hayes was unstoppable and got great assistance from Martin Collins, Richie O’Sullivan and Declan O’Sullivan with all the rest working their socks off.  The final score was  a draw Kilmac 0-3, Bantry 1-0 Team - Diarmuid O’Callaghan, Stephen O’Sullivan, Odhran Connolly, Shane O’Neill, Declan O’Sullivan, Martin Collins Euan Tobin, Niall Hayes,  Richie O’Sullivan, Aidan Williamson, Matthew O’Neill, Kevin O’Donovan, Eoin O’Sullivan, Jack Tobin, Aishling Cahalane.

Team Bernadette O’Driscoll, Aishling Cahalane, Hannah MacEoin, Emma O’Callaghan, Lorraine O’Donovan, Clare Collins, Fiona O’Sullivan.
The boys from Leap were also in the final of their section but had to give away to a physically stronger Darra. They put in a good effort and competed well but had too much to do.           Weekly Notes 02 June 2007:

The U14 hurlers played Ardfield on Thursday 24/5/07 in Ardfield. Ardfield began the brighter and playing much better and should have been further ahead at halftime with the score at 2-0 to 2-3 in Ardfields favour. An all round improvement in the Kilmacs play produced a much better second half and getting on top throughout the field and working hard produced a excellent performance to win the game on the score 3-4 to 2-4. This was a good enjoyable game with plenty of excitement and commitment from both sides. It was a performance of which everyone could be proud of their effort. Team Martin Collins, Liam O’Driscoll, Oisin O’Sullivan, Niall Hayes, Finnán Tobin, Eamon O’Sullivan(0-3),Kevin Hayes, Denny Hayes, Liam Cahalane(1-1), Richie O’Sullivan, Eoin Collins, Liam Thompson(1-0)David O’Donovan, Declan O’Sullivan,.
The under 12 hurlers played Barryroe on  Monday 28th   May. This was a good game with very little between the teams. Barryroe had more skilful players but the Kilmacs put in a great effort and could feel unlucky that they could not convert possession into scores especially in the last quarter when they were camped in the Barryroe half. The final score was Kilmac 0-3, Barryroe 2-3 Team - Diarmuid O’Callaghan, Odhran Connolly, Shane O’Neill, Declan O’Sullivan, Martin Collins Euan Tobin, Niall Hayes,  Richie O’Sullivan, Pat Calnan, Aidan Williamson, Kevin Whooley,  Matthew O’Neill, Kevin O’Donovan, Eoin O’Sullivan, Jack Tobin.

          Weekly Notes 26 May 2007:

The U14 hurlers  played Barryroe in the league on Thursday 17/5/07 in Skibbereen. Starting slowly it looked early on as if they would have their work cut out but goals from Liam Cahalane and Richie O’Sullivan gave the team the boost they needed and they went on to record a comprehensive victory. This was a  much improved performance and the most encouraging factor was the commitment and work rate of every one. This result should encourage them to improve further. Best on the night were Kevin Hayes and Eamon O’Sullivan around the middle, Liam Cahalane led the attack well, Richie O’Sullivan was dangerous inside and with Niall Hayes unbeatable at centerback and with all the others contributing it was a welcome result. Team Martin Collins, Liam O’Driscoll, Oisin O’Sullivan, Declan O’Sullivan, Niall Hayes, Finnán Tobin, Eamon O’Sullivan(1-3),Kevin Hayes(1-3), Denny Hayes, Liam Cahalane(2-2), Richie O’Sullivan(1-1), Eoin Collins, Emma O’Callaghan, David O’Donovan.
The under 12 hurlers played Gabriel Og  Monday 21st  May. The Kilmacs were quicker to settle and a couple of early goals put them in the driving seat. Gabriels came more into the game and were making a match of it but a couple of goals at the end of the first half gave the Kilmacs an advantage they held to the end. Team - Diarmuid O’Callaghan, Odhran Connolly, Shane O’Neill, Declan O’Sullivan, Martin Collins Euan Tobin, Niall Hayes,  Richie O’Sullivan, Pat Calnan, Aidan Williamson, Kevin Whooley, Shane McDermott, Shane Garvey, Matthew O’Neill, Kevin O’Donovan, Eoin O’Sullivan, Gavin Daly.
The minors played away to  Ballinora in the non exam league on Tuesday 22nd May. The team played well in the first half and looked in a good position when they were ahead by six points at half time after playing against the hill and the wind. The team tired badly in the second half and with a lack of strength in depth in the panel and a young team had little options but could feel unlucky to loose by 2 points. Team Joseph Collins, Sam O’Driscoll, Stephen Calnan, Thomas Jennings, Clive Sweetnam, Jonathon Hill, Kevin O’Sullivan, Sean O’Regan, Colin McCarthy, Mark Jennings, Andrew O’Callaghan, Timothy Nyhan, John O’Sullivan, Padraig Burke.

         Weekly Notes 19 May 2007:

The u14 hurlers started their playing season away to Gabriels on Thursday 10th May 2007. Fielding a young team it was always going to be difficult especially against a much stronger team physically. Giving away a couple of early goals did not help but they settled and gave a good effort. Gabriels were deserving victors on the night There was obvious signs of lack of sharpness but this should improve with more play. Best on the night were Kevin Hayes, Eamon O’Sullivan, Niall Hayes and Martin Collins had a great game in goal. Team Martin Collins, Liam O’Driscoll, Oisin O’Sullivan, Denny Hayes, Eamon O’Sullivan, Finnan Tobin, Niall Hayes, Kevin Hayes, Declan O’Sullivan, Liam Cahalane, Richie O’Sullivan, Eoin Collins, Emma O’Callaghan, Andrew O’Sullivan.
The junior C footballers were in action also on Thursday when they took on Caheragh and were well worth their victory by 2 points. The Junior A footballers took on Bandon in the league on Sunday13th May. The game was even in the first half and the sides were level at half time on the score 0-5 each. The Kilmacs fell away alarmingly in the second half and suffered their first defeat of the season on the score 0-12 to 0-8. The under 12 hurlers were in action on Monday 14th May when they took on Ardfield.           Weekly Notes 12 May 2007:

On Wednesday 5th May the U12’s took on Kilmeen in the semi-final of the championship. Having already played in the league they were well aware of what they faced. Unfortunately they made a bad start in conceding a goal in the first minute. Given that, they made a good effort and even though they were behind were making a game of it and were well in contention until the last five minutes when they concede three goals. Playing against a physically stronger and well prepared team this was a gap too great to bridge. To their credit they kept playing football to the end and can feel proud of their display. On the night they were beaten by the better team but they also produced some good moves of their own. The final score was Kilmeen 6-9 Kilmacabea 4-5. Team - Odhran Connolly, Shane O’Neill, Fiona O’Sullivan, Aishling O’Callaghan, Declan O’Sullivan, Euan Tobin, Niall Hayes, Martin Collins, Diarmuid O’Callaghan, Richie O’Sullivan, Bernadette O’Driscoll, Aidan Williamson, Eoin O’Sullivan, Kevin Whooley, Thomas French, Niamh O’Driscoll, Matthew O’Neill, Kevin O’Donovan, Gavin Daly, Kevin Whooley.
On Tuesday 8th May the minors began their non-exam league when they travelled to the Mizen and had a victory over the home team. Team – Joseph Collins, Sam O’Driscoll, Stephen Calnan, Thomas Jennings, Clive Sweetnam, Jonathon Hill, Kevin O’Sullivan, Colin McCarthy, Mark Jennings, Brendan McCarthy, Timothy Nyhan, Andrew O’Callaghan, John O’Sullivan, Sean O’Regan.
The club has recently received a sizeable lotto grant, which will contribute to the funding of the development of the pitch and facilities at William Goulding Park. This is most welcome and thanks must go to our local public representatives for their efforts on the clubs behalf. The contractor is currently working on the field works. The process to build the new dressing room and sports hall is also in motion.

          Weekly Notes 05 May 2007:

The U12 footballers played Kilbrittain in Ardfield on Monday 26/4/07 in the first round of the championship. Starting well, two early goals set them up and with Niall Hayes, Declan O’Sullivan, Martin Collins, Richie O’Sullivan and Diarmuid O’Callaghan playing well around the middle they had enough to overcome a strong Kilbrittain side. This was a good contest and the team had to work hard but were able to get vital scores when needed. The final score was Kilmacabea 7-6 Kilbrittain 1-7 Team - Odhran Connolly, Shane O’Neill, Fiona O’Sullivan, Aishling O’Callaghan, Declan O’Sullivan, Euan Tobin, Niall Hayes(1-3) Martin Collins, Diarmuid O’Callaghan(1-0), Richie O’Sullivan(3-2), Bernadette O’Driscoll, Aidan Williamson(1-1), Eoin O’Sullivan(1-0), Kevin Whooley, Thomas French, Niamh O’Driscoll, Matthew O’Neill, Kevin O’Donovan, Michéal O’Donovan.

          Weekly Notes 28 Apr 2007:

The junior “A” footballers played Ilen Rovers in the first round of the championship on Saturday evening 21st April in Skibbereen. Ilen Rovers started well and after 5 minutes were three points to the good. The Kilmacs settled and started to create moves of their own and got the break needed when Ger O’Donovan expertly converted a penalty in the 8th minute to level the match. Getting on top throughout the pitch the Kilmacs began to dominate possession and made some good moves but were let down by their final ball. Ger O’Donovan converted a second penalty in the 19th minute and the side went in deservedly ahead on the score of 2-3 to 0-4. . Coming out for the second half the game was balanced for the first five minutes with the exchanges robust., When Ilen rovers had a man sent to the line after 6 minutes it looked good for the Kilmacs to go on to confirm their advantage. As happens so often in this scenario it was the Ilen Rovers who went on to raise their game. The Kilmacs were not winning the possession necessary and looked to be in trouble when Ilen scored two goals to go ahead by the 20th minute. Thankfully the Kilmacs rallied and did enough to fashion a two point victory in the last 10 minutes. Kilmacabea 2-7 Ilen Rovers 2-5. This was a good test for the team and was an indication of their resolve when they were put under pressure and games like this will stand to them. This was a game where each individual did his part and had their moments. The defence as a unit did well, midfield had a good first half and the forwards also had their spell. Team Timothy O’Donovan, Ciaran O’Donovan, Niall McCarthy, Timmie O’Mahony, Donie O’Donoghue, Brendan O’Driscoll, Diarmuid O’Donovan, Ruairi Hourihane, Eoin O’Donovan, Noel O’Donoghue, Tom Sheehan, Donnacha McCarthy(0-1), Donie O’Donovan(0-1) , Ger O’Donavan(2-4), Noel McCarthy Subs used Daniel O’Donovan(0-1), Barry Glavin, Noel O’Donovan.

          Weekly Notes 21 Apr 2007:

A number of matches were played during the week with varying degrees of success. The U14 footballers played their first match when they travelled to play Kilmeen on Thursday 12th. Having little work done there were obvious signs of lack of practice and playing against a stronger and more cohesive group they were up against it. Allowing for that they produced some fine moves of their own but had to give way to a better team. The U16 hurlers travelled to play Timoleague on Friday evening. Struggling to field a team they were well beaten on the night. The u-12 footballers travelled to again play Kilmeen on Monday night 16th April but again had to give way. This was a good measure for them of the work needed to be put in.
The junior A footballers played Ballinascarthy and won on the score 1-9 to 0-10.
The junior “C” footballers beat Goleen on the score of 0-15 to 3-3.

          Weekly Notes 14 Apr 2007:

On Saturday 7th April the U21’s took on Muintir Bhaire in  the semi-final of the championship in Rath. Playing against the cross wind in the first half the early exchanges were even and the sides were level after five minutes when the Kilmacs created a goal scored by Andrew O’Callaghan which was to ease the pressure on them. With Ruairi Hourihane and James Calnan winning a lot of ball the Kilmacs had the advantage in the middle of the pitch but were not getting the scores to reflect their possession. Muintir Bhaire as always were competing well and were pegging away with their own score’s and the game was evenly balanced at half time with the Kilmacs ahead on the score of 1-6 to 0-7. After an early injury scare to James Calnan at the start of the second half it looked as if the game might be swinging in Muintir Bhaire’s favour when they had levelled by the 10th minute and even though Ger O’Donovan again edged the Kilmacs ahead in the 13th minute the sides were again level by the 16th minute. The next couple of minutes were the turning points of the game when following a good move Brian O’Sullivan goaled in the 17th minute and this was followed immediately by another fine move, which John O’Driscoll finished with a goal. This gave the advantage to the Kilmacs and they went on to finish out winning 3-9 to 0-12.  Going in to the game without key player Daniel O’Donovan was unsettling but never was the true mettle of this group of players better shown than with this display. Credit to one and all for raising their game against a tough uncompromising opposition. This was the day for the defence as a unit to show their hunger. Timothy O’Donovan in goal again was equal to all that came his way. Early on it looked as if Niall McCarthy had his hands full but as the game wore on so did his grip. Two outstanding men flanked him on the day in Sam O’Driscoll and Barry Ronan who were never bettered. Ciaran O’Donovan as usual was at the heart of everything and mastered a number of opponents and Clive Sweetnam and Michéal O Donovan were equal to the challenge put to them. At midfield Ruairi and James were a fine pairing and dominated possession. Ger O’Donovan led the forwards with his usual style and was unstoppable getting all the side’s points. Either side of him Kevin O’Sullivan and Tom French who shipped some heavy tackles got through a lot of work. The inside line of John O’Driscoll, Brian O’Sullivan and Andrew O’Callaghan were always dangerous and combined well to take their goals. While this game was not without incident the manner in achieving victory made it all the sweeter. Team Timothy O’Donovan, Sam O’Driscoll, Niall McCarthy, Barry Ronan, Clive Sweetnam Ciaran O’Donovan, Michéal O’Donovan, Ruairi Hourihane, James Calnan, Kevin O’Sullivan, Ger O’Donovan(0-9), Thomas French, , Brian O’Sullivan(1-0), John O’Driscoll(1-0), Andrew O’Callaghan(1-0). Subs Timothy Nyhan, Brian O’Donovan, Mark Jennings.
The U12 footballers played Gabriel Rangers in Skibbereen on Monday evening 9th April. While they won and scored some fine scores they were put under pressure at times and had to work for the result. Team - Odhran Connolly, Shane O’Neill, Fiona O’Sullivan, Bernadette O’Driscoll, Declan O’Sullivan, Euan Tobin, Niall Hayes Martin Collins, Diarmuid O’Callaghan,, Richie O’Sullivan, Matthew O’Neill, Aidan Williamson, Eoin O’Sullivan, Thomas French, Niamh O’Driscoll, Kevin O’Donovan Aishling O’Callaghan.

            Weekly Notes 07 Apr 2007:

The U12 footballers played Pedlars Cross on Monday evening 2nd April in Unionhall. Dominating in all areas of the field the team soon got into their stride and playing with superb passing and use of the ball fashioned out excellent scores. With every one working very hard for possession and doing their part in their position it was a treat to watch the combination and flow of football and was an example to anyone young or old of how to play. The team went on to maintain their momentum and were comfortable winners. Team - Odhran Connolly, Shane O’Neill, Fiona O’Sullivan, Aishling Cahalane, Declan O’Sullivan, Euan Tobin, Niall Hayes, Martin Collins, Diarmuid O’Callaghan, Richie O’Sullivan, Kevin Whooley, Aidan Williamson, Eoin O’Sullivan, Bernadette O’Driscoll, Thomas French, Kevin O’Dono
